2009 A TIME TO SHINE!!!!!

Posted by correttasinger at 08:50 PM on April 28, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Wow, It's been a while since I posted anything here...well, with being busy filing taxes and allsad

So, it's 2009..what is in store?

Firstly, I am working on a new animated short entitled "Kina Sky". It is named after the main character (the robo-girl on the site header) who lives marooned on a floating island. It won't have any dialogue, but will be interpreted with a musical score to fuel the story...kind of like Disney's "Fantasia".

Now a few of you may be going.."Hey what happened to Voyajah?" Don't worry, I'll get around to Voyajah soon enough. I just wanted to do something different, something way out of line in terms of the look and feel of my past animations. I'm really going all out for this one. I want it to be great...I just hope I can pull it off. Pray for me guys.

So I'm modelling, rendering and compositing...and also composing the musical score. Writing a classical music piece is NOT easy.

Wait did she just say "Classical music"?

Yes...I did. Strings, French Horns, Flutes, Harps, Bassoons and the like...all digital.

Why Classical...It's not Caribbean.

Well, it's different...and different is what I aim for.

So peace out and all that lovliness...I am off again to damage my eyes in front of the monitor for hours at a time.

Cheers

Trotting around the globe

Hello All,

I am just returning from a wonderful opportunity to visit Egypt for a few days.

So I am currently editing my footage into a documentary, I've never done a documentary before...So I'll give it a whack. I am not sure what I'll do with it once it's finished, put I'll try to upload the segments to let y'all have a peek.

Egypt was a great experience. To see the pyramids in person was a priceless gift that no amount of money can equal.

On a side note...Animae Caribe is just around the corner and with all this work, I dunno if I'll have anything finished in time...I need inspiration...I need encouragement....I need...Valium?

Cheers

Commercials and competitions

Hey all,

It's been a while. I've been tied up with commercials and the like, mostly Digicel stuff, and recently had to do a reshoot for the Fruta ad. They just wanted a Trinidadian version of the advert.

I also decided to enter the Radiohead animation competition...just for the hell of it. I'm not really into competitions and the like...festivals sure. There is the chance of winning $10,000 US dollars...that would be cool, but mostly I just want to do it for fun.

It's been really insane...The competition is divided into three segments...a storyboard segment, a one minute animation segment and then the finals. The 10 semifinalists were selected about two weeks back and since then on the aniboom forum, it's been chaos.

The problem is that the semifinalists all had basically finished animations and only two had actual storyboards. Also, three of the semifinalists had recut previous work that they had and edited it to one of the Radiohead songs. War ensued...people bitched and whined.

I guess people never read the fine print...If ya had finished animation you could enter it. The way I see it, it wouldn't have mattered who won, people would be googling their names to find something that would make their position seem unfair.

Anyways enuff of dat. Even though the 10 semifinalists have been selected, there is still the chance of winning one of three golden tickets by entering a one minute completed version of your storyboard. Out of the thirteen one minute clips chosen, five will be picked by radiohead and the one winner will be chosen from that.

For what it's worth I entered a one minute animation. Heck, I may as well try....who knows....You can see my animation here:

2008!!!!!!

It's official!

Corretta Singer Animation and Visual Media is now an official, bonafide, registered company!!

It took a while, and after some pep-talks from some influencial and motivational people, I finally got it done.
It's only March and already I've been overwhelmed with work! I've been working on some Adverts for Digicel in Guyana and in Jamaica, as well as currently working on a project involving a collaboration with Creative people in Switzerland. very hush hush...

Having a company involves a lot of responsibility and things are going to be very different and very difficult along the way, but I will not give up!! This is a NEW YEAR a NEW LIFE and demands a NEW ATTITUDE!

As Cinecom's Natalie Thompson said in a recent interview...
"In this industry nothing gets handed to you on a silver platter. You have to go out there and prove yourself"

Sorry, I have to stop typing, my hands are going to be busy grabbing the bull by the horns!

I'll keep you all posted... feel free to leave comments and ask questions. I always willing to help.

Fruta

Season's Greetings!

Wow, Haven't been on here for a while. I've been really caught up with work since my adventures in Trinidad. My latest project is a set of three commercials for Fruta. It seems ironic that I got the job in Jamaica, but Fruta is a Trinidad based company....Destiny?
I am working with an advertising Agency...It's been really tough work. People always warned me about ad agencies...they are like super picky. They will tell you to change something a zillion times...why? because they can.

I was the director for the two day shoot and am also the Animator for the animations they want. *Sigh* I am still re-rendering changes.

As for Sun  Island I finished their Fashion Commercial and am still waiting for word on the rough-cut for the corporate commercial. eh...holidays, so I gotta wait.

I am trying to enjoy the holidays. There is no glamor in this industry, we work weekends and holidays, everyday is just another day regardless. I try to make good use of what little free time I seem to have left nowadays.

To the rest of you, have a wonderful holiday and all the best for the Coming New year!

See you in 2008!

Wow..It's been a while. I entered Animae Caribe this year ...and Won Most Outstanding Animation 2007!!...wooo hooo. I wasn't expecting it. I've seen so many talented people. Was glad to be part of the whole experience, I learned so much being in Trinidad. Because of the workshops I now have an itch to do stop motion animation.

Also, I am in the process of Editing two Commercials for Sun Island. Thanks to all the people who worked with me on the set Richard lannaman, Berger, Ezra, Earl Erown, Dean and of course Toni B ....you all make me look good. keep y'all updated.
